More price reductions on old favourites

Continuing our year of changes throughout MANIFOLD PRESS, we’re introducing another set of permanent price reductions on classic titles.

BETWEEN NOW AND THENBETWEEN NOW AND THEN by Adam Fitzroy – now $4.95!

It’s 1991, and a group of English football fans are driving across Belgium; their trip takes them through the site of a former battle, and that’s when a strange sequence of events begins. For Dennis and Allan, colleagues who cordially dislike each other, this means journeying further still – into what appears to be the past, and into the lives of two men who travelled this way seventy-five years earlier, whose unfinished love-affair remains to be played out in full. As they move backwards and forwards in time Dennis and Allan have only themselves to rely on, no markers to show them where they’re going, and no real certainty of ever finding their way home again.

MONTANA REDMONTANA RED by Jane Elliot – now $4.95!

It’s out of the frying-pan and into the fire on the day Henry first meets Red. He’s happy enough at first to be having sex with a man – Heaven knows, it’s better than what he’s running away from! – but it isn’t too long before Red’s sexual extravagances are driving the two of them apart. It’s only when Henry’s trying to manage on his own again that he at last begins to achieve a little perspective – on inversion in general, on himself in particular, and even on his relationship with Red. That’s when he starts to wonder if maybe there isn’t a way back for them after all, but this time it will definitely have to be on his terms…

THE EAGLE'S WINGTHE EAGLE’S WING by Cimorene Ross – now $5.95!

Roman Gaul: Lucius Valerius Carus isn’t naturally impulsive; when he suddenly and unexpectedly buys a slave at a market it’s because he feels sorry for a man who has obviously been maltreated in the past. However he’s taken on far more than he bargained for with Keret – intelligent, educated, and a great deal stronger than he looks. Roman society wouldn’t think twice about Lucius using Keret for his sexual pleasure – indeed, it would be astonished if he didn’t – but it’s likely to be horrified if it ever learns that Lucius has started to respect his slave, and absolutely disgusted if it discovers that he’s gradually beginning to fall in love…

HUNTEDHUNTED by Liz Powell – now $6.95!

As a professional footballer it looks like Adam Hunter has it all, but when the secret of his affair with midfielder Louie Jackson begins to leak out he’s plunged into the depths of misery – prompting a desperate series of manoeuvres to conceal the truth. Injured, distrusted by his team-mates and plagued by personal tragedy, Adam goes from hero to zero – and by the time Louie’s transferred to a German side he’s running out of reasons to stay alive. If there’s any way back from the brink of suicide, it isn’t clear to him at the moment…

THE WALLED GARDENTHE WALLED GARDEN by F.M. Parkinson – now $6.95!

William Ashton, retained as a gardener by Edward Hillier, discovers his new master to be a detached and driven man. Over the years, as travail and tragedy bring them closer together, he understands that they have more in common than he first realised, but the affection they feel for one another will be sorely tested by boundaries both of class and of rigid Victorian morality. Like the private garden behind the high walls their love must flourish only in the strictest secrecy – or else it will not do so at all.

If you missed any of these diverse and fascinating titles earlier in their illustrious careers, this would be a wonderful opportunity of making their acquaintance!

New reviews of HUNTED; WRONG ROOM, RIGHT GUY

HUNTEDWhilst setting up the new blog and overhauling our website (the electronic equivalent of spring cleaning) we’ve become aware of a couple of reviews which slipped through the net some time ago. So, in the spirit of ‘better late than never’ – which seems to be our watchword at the moment! – we’re bringing them to you now, with apologies to the two authors for having missed them when they were published.

On 25 November 2014, reviewer Sue at Boys in our Books gave her very enthusiastic response to Liz Powell’s HUNTED, which had been published three months earlier:

If you’re a football fan, you’ll love this… and even if you’re not, I still think you’ll love it. I’ve already re-read parts and I’m sure I’ll read some more. […] Liz Powell is officially on my radar. Let’s hope this début novel is just the beginning of a prolific writing career.

On 6 April 2015, Devan Huff at Nautical Star Books reviewed Liam Livings’s WRONG ROOM, RIGHT GUY. The reviewer enjoyed the writing style and the minor characters, but unfortunately didn’t really warm to the main character:

Overall, Wrong Room, Right Guy by Liam Livings was well written, I just couldn’t get into the story all that much and wasn’t fond of Simon at all.

I think this falls into the category of ‘some you win, some you lose’. We’d like to thank both reviewers for their time and their comments, which we truly appreciate – and we’ll try to be a little bit more efficient at picking up reviews in the future!

Valentine’s Giveaway winner – and a reminder!

ValentinesDayBanner

Thank you again to everyone who took part in our Valentine’s Day giveaway. Our last winner for this particular round was Loren, who asked for a copy of Liz Powell’s HUNTED. Your book will be winging its way to you shortly, Loren, and we hope you’ll enjoy reading it.

Also, don’t forget that registrations go live at noon tomorrow, Sunday 22 February, for our event in Oxford on 9 May entitled Queer Company! We’re looking forward to it immensely, and hoping to have a chance to put faces to some familiar names; many of our authors will be in attendance, too, so if you’d like to meet them this would be an ideal opportunity.

Meanwhile, watch this space for further announcements – we’ve always got something new and intriguing in the works, and this is the place where you’ll find out about it first!

Twelve Days of Christmas Giveaway – Day Eleven

So, for the rest of the world Christmas is now officially over – today being Twelfth Night, and the decorations coming down even at Megaheadquarters where we like to stretch the festivities out as far as we possibly can – but because of our good-natured inefficiency (starting a day late and then missing out a day in the middle, oh the shame of it!) there are still two days of our festive giveaway left to go!

Congratulations to our Day Ten winner, Majken, who asked for a copy of Liz Powell’s HUNTED. We’ll send that to you later this morning, Majken, and very much hope you will enjoy reading it!

For everyone else, we expect you’re familiar with the form by now; for twelve days we’ll be giving away one free book per day, with the next draw to be made as close as possible to 09.00 UK time tomorrow, Wednesday 7 January.

To win the Manifold Press book of your choice all you need to do is tell us – in a screened reply below – your first name, the title of the book you’d like, the format you prefer and an e-mail address to send it to. (We need all this information, please.) Also, we’d remind you that this giveaway doesn’t include the two new books announced on 1 January for 1 February publication – existing titles only, we’re afraid!

If you are successful once, don’t let it deter you from entering again; you can actually win twice before being disqualified for the rest of the giveaway, but luckily this rarely happens.

So come on in and join us; it’s a great chance to experiment with the work of a new author, or to complete the backlist of a favourite – and good luck and best wishes to everyone who takes part!

Rainbow Awards – finalists announced

We’re delighted to announce that all three of the books which had previously been awarded ‘Honourable Mentions’ in this year’s Rainbow Awards are now definitely among the finalists. These are:

THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER WYE by Adam Fitzroy
A THREEFOLD CORD by Julie Bozza
DANCE OF STONE by Jay Lewis Taylor

alongside these, we’re also very pleased to note, goes:

HUNTED by Liz Powell

which could still outperform them all. We’re already biting our fingernails and the announcements aren’t due until December 8 – it’s going to be a very tense few weeks here at Manifold Press Megaheadquarters!

Once again, though, and in all seriousness, we would like to congratulate our four authors for their excellent showing in the Awards; it’s no small thing simply to have made the cut, and we’re exceptionally proud of all of you.

ETA: RANDY by Jane Elliot also made the cut – humble apologies for missing it on our first run through the list!

August titles available on all platforms!

It’s taken longer than it should have this time (we’ll explain why in a moment!), for which we apologise profusely, but later on today it should be possible to purchase our two most recent publications through our distribution partner sites.

Just in case you’re in any doubt, the titles are:

RANDY by Jane Elliot – the tale of Garrison who – down on his luck after a series of catastrophes – is rescued by a young man who will change his life in ways he can’t even begin to count. Unfortunately, though, the path to true love never did run smooth…

and:

HUNTED by Liz Powell – Adam is a professional footballer, and everything he says or does is subject to scrutiny; when rumours of his affair with team-mate Louie begin to surface, he might just as well have a target painted on his back – and Adam’s increasingly desperate efforts to deflect suspicion only seem to make things worse…

The delay this time has been caused by a major upheaval at Manifold Press Megaheadquarters; we’ve actually moved fifteen miles or so up the road to a new location, from which we’ll be operating for about a year – and then there will be another and hopefully permanent move towards the end of 2015. We’re doing our best to make this as seamless as possible for all our loyal readers, but we hope you will forgive us (not least for the mixed metaphor!) if there is the occasional bump in the road.

Statistics for August will follow as soon as we have them; we’re experiencing a slight operational difficulty – just not enough pairs of hands available at the moment to do everything we need to do – but we doubt anyone will be seriously inconvenienced by the lack of statistical information and therefore on this occasion we hope to be forgiven!

Two new titles published today!

Our two newest titles are now available to order!

There’s a welcome return for Jane Elliot, who brings us another of her always-popular authentic stories featuring gay life in the Old West. Here, it’s the tale of Garrison who – down on his luck after a series of catastrophes – is rescued by RANDY, a young man who will change his life in ways he can’t even begin to count. Unfortunately, though, the path to true love never did run smooth …

The main protagonist in Liz Powell’s novel HUNTED is facing a similar crisis – but there the similarities end! Adam is a professional footballer, and everything he says or does is subject to scrutiny; when rumours of his affair with team-mate Louie begin to surface, he might just as well have a target painted on his back – and Adam’s increasingly desperate efforts to deflect suspicion only seem to make things worse …

Liz is a new member of the MANIFOLD PRESS family; we’d like to welcome her to the fold and wish her and her book every possible success.

EXTREMELY RANDOM HARVEST – DAY TWO

XRH

Congratulations to our Day One winner, Allie, who asked for a copy of Liz Powell’s HUNTED; this will be on its way to you shortly – and thank you for taking part.

– – – – –

This is the second day of our new Extremely Random Harvest giveaway! We are giving away seven books over seven days, with the next one being drawn at random 24 hours from now. To win, all you need to do is give us (in a screened reply, below) your first name, your e-mail address, and the title of the book you’d like to win – which includes our two new titles being published on 1 August, RANDY by Jane Elliot and HUNTED by Liz Powell.

One entry per day only, please – and nobody is allowed to win more than twice. Also, please don’t forget to tell us which format you’d like to receive! We’ll do our level best to draw the winner at the same time every day, to give everyone an equal chance of winning – so come and join in the fun, and don’t forget to tell your friends; this is a great chance to discover a new author or a new book, or to complete the back catalogue of an old favourite. After all, what have you got to lose?

Two new titles announced today!

We can now bring you details of our two exciting new titles, scheduled for publication on 1 August!
